“SINDA has supported my family tremendously. Knowing that we can always count on SINDA reassures us that we are never alone. In my mentoring journey, my mentor has helped me become a better individual by teaching me the importance of values and aspirations. He also taught me interview skills and resume writing. These enhanced my professional self as I know I have the essential skills to secure a job in my preferred field.”
Pearlin Benita Love
Having witnessed her mother’s struggles as a single parent and how SINDA’s holistic support made life for her family easier, Pearlin is inspired to uplift the broken and vulnerable. In 2020, the aspiring social worker and beneficiary of the SINDA-SIET Tertiary Bursary Award joined the Mentor Me programme and was paired with her mentor, Ameen, who gave her round-the-clock support and confidence to achieve her goals.
As she was studying for her diploma in social work, they honed her interview skills, with Ameen arming her with advice to create a good impression at future interviews. Knowing that she wanted to maintain a healthy lifestyle, he also sent her workout exercises which she incorporated into her daily routine. As the programme progressed, she experienced a mindset shift as Ameen taught her to harness her strengths to overcome her weaknesses.
Pearlin’s outstanding participation in the programme won her recognition at the SINDA Youth Awards 2020. Today, armed with newfound skills and knowledge, she has renewed determination to transform lives for the better.
